First Day: We start by picking you up from your hotels or hostels in the city center of Arequipa between 3:00 am and 3:30 am, and then we drive to Chivay, where breakfast will be served.
Then, we head west to the Cruz del Condor, located on the edge of the Colca Canyon. You will have 45 minutes to enjoy the views and look for condors.
After visiting the Cruz del Condor, we drive for approximately 20 more minutes to the start of the San Miguel trail, where we will begin the hike. First, we will descend 1000 m on a zigzagging path along the canyon wall. In about three hours, we will reach a small village called San Juan de Chuccho, where we will rest and have a nutritious lunch.
After resting and having lunch, we will continue walking for about two and a half hours along the opposite side of the canyon wall until we reach the oasis of Sangalle around 4:00 pm. Here in Sangalle, you will be assigned a bamboo bungalow, and you will have the afternoon to relax in the pool and hammocks. Dinner will be served at 7:00 pm, and then we will rest in your bungalows for the night.
Second Day: The next morning, we will wake up at 5 am to start the ascent from the canyon to Cabanaconde, a small village located on the canyon edge directly above Sangalle. This three-hour, 1000 m climb is the most challenging part of the hike. Each person can climb at their own pace, and the group will meet at the top.
Breakfast will be served in Cabanaconde, and then the transportation will pick us up.
We will return to Chivay by car, making stops at Antahuilke to see pre-Inca terraces and at the Yanque hot springs to bathe in the hot water pools for an hour.
Upon arriving in Chivay, we will stop at a local restaurant for a buffet lunch.
Then, we head back to Arequipa, making two final stops along the way at Patapama and the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve. You will be dropped off two blocks from the Plaza de Armas around 5:30 pm.
